Exploring Frequent Eating/ Overeating - Part 1!

Common Reasons Behind Frequent Eating & Overeating:

1. Consuming Cooked/ Processed/ Spicy Foods - When we Consume Cooked/ Processed Foods, We increase its flavor with spices, salt, sugar, oil, taste enhancers, etc.. Due to the increased taste we end up eating more quantity than what is necessary to fulfill our Hunger. Over a Period of Time, our Taste Buds gets calibrated to foods with stronger taste and we develop a strong desire for such foods.

2. Appetite/ Craving - When we develop strong desire towards Food, the sight, smell or even a thought about the Food can trigger Appetite/Craving without Real Hunger. With Appetite & Craving, we end up eating without hunger, in between two meals and more quantity of Food than what we require.

3. Habitual Huger - When we are into a Habitual Pattern of Eating due to Occupation, Education, Family Pattern, Social Pattern, etc.. Our Digestive Fluids are secreted involuntarily without Real Hunger based on the Pattern of Eating. i.e: If we develop eating 6 meals a day for a period of time our digestive fluids are secreted six times on specific time intervals as per the pattern of eating without a Real Need.

4. Emotional Eating/ Eating as an Outlet - When we go through different emotions, extremities - we feel overwhelmed and seek an Outlet, a Drain. Food is one such common, widely used outlet/drain across countries, civilizations.

Ways to Overcome Frequent Eating/ Overeating:

1. Eat only on Keen Hunger - when we don't have specific preferences, choices towards food

2. Replace Cooked/Processed Meals with an Unprocessed/ Minimally Processed Meal(Fruit Meal, Salad Meal, Conservatively Cooked Meal with minimal spices, salt, oil, ..) in other words Replace Artificially Flavoured Meal with Naturally/Minimally Flavoured Meal.

3. Have a fulfilling Meal every time - Don't intellectually restrict the quantity, We can never overeat when we consume a Healthy Meal - Typically a fruit meal, veg salad meal or a conservatively cooked meal.

4. Eat Mindfully - Be with the Food, Eat in silence,  Chew the Food thoroughly, Avoid Distractions like TV, Reading, Conversations, etc.. Enjoy the Taste, Stay aware on the Taste Buds and Stomach and Stop Eating when you stop Enjoying the Taste or When you feel complete.
